Father's Day

Happy B'day Daddy!

My dad is my hero, nobody can replace him. Today is my father's b'day, so I decide to make an article about father although today is not father's day.

I'm the oldest daughter that daddy's has, daddy's has 2 other daughters at home, they are Rosa and Elsa.

We love daddy so much, because he always protects all his daughters well. I always tell everybody that my father is my 1st boyfriend, he won't leave his family however the condition. He is the best father ever!

I still remember that when I was a child, I went to a cinema with my dad and Rosa. We watch Jumanji, a film about an adventure of a group of people who lost in a magic game. As good as I remember, it was my 1st time going to a cinema.


So, this article is dedicated to our hero, dad...



Father's Day is celebrated on June 21. Here are steps to make unforgetable gifts to your dad...

Dad Rocks Paperweight

What dad could resist using this glittery paperweight on his desk to show off your love for him? Paint it with his favorite color or to match his office décor.

What you'll need:

• 1 rock heavy enough to weight down paper, about a palm size
• Acrylic paint (We chose blue)
• Gold glitter glue
• Paintbrush
• Acrylic sealer spray
• Black marker
  

How to make it:

1. Choose a rock that is about the size of your palm. It should be heavy enough to weight down a few papers and not be blown away.
2. Wash the rock with warm, soapy water and a scrub brush; be sure to get into all the crevices. Wipe off water with a towel.
3. After rock has completely dried, paint the entire rock with acrylic paint. Let the paint dry and then paint on a second coat.
4. Paint the entire rock with a thin layer of glitter glue and then let dry.
5. Use a squeezable glitter glue bottle to carefully write “DAD ROCKS” on the rock. Let dry overnight.
6. The next day, use a black marker to outline the letters to make them stand out better.
7. Get a grown-up to spray the entire surface of rock with acrylic sealer spray.
   
   

Tips:

• Instead of writing the words with glitter glue, try a paint pen. They write like a pen but go on like paint. You can find them at your local craft supply store.
• Some glitter glues dry puffy and some dry flat (like ours). Experiment with yours first if you like to see how it will turn out.
• Instead of just one rock, paint two and put “DAD” on one and “ROCKS” on the other for a matching set.

Smiley Daddy & Me Magnet

Everyone knows what smileys are, so why not make one of you and your dad? This adorable magnet is perfect for attaching to a filing cabinet, refrigerator, or even a tool box.

What you'll need:

• ¼ c salt
• ¼ c water
• ½ c flour
• Cookie sheet
• Acrylic paint: yellow, peach, black, white
• Paintbrush
• Toothpick
• Acrylic sealer spray
• Magnet
• White craft glue
  

How to make it:

1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
2. Mix together flour, salt, and water. Dough should not be sticky; you should be able to work it in your hands. If it is too sticky add small amounts of flour until you get the consistency that you want. Be careful not to add too much flour as your creations will crack!
3. Pull a piece of dough off and form a ball by rolling it in your hands. Flatten he ball of dough onto the cookie sheet, it should be about ½” thick.
4. Repeat the above step; only make the second ball a little smaller. Lay it on the cookie sheet and flatten it to ½". Place it carefully over the larger circle and use a knife or the toothpick to cut out a piece of the larger circle to fit the smaller circle into. Carefully push them together.
5. Roll small pieces of dough to form the round noses. Flatten in your hand and then place onto the two faces.
6. Use a toothpick to draw on the smiles. Be sure to do this step before baking.
7. Place cookie sheet in oven and bake for 2 ½ hours.
8. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
9. Paint faces yellow and noses peach. Let dry. Repeat for a second coat.
10. Use the handle end of the paintbrush to add whites of eyes. LET DRY completely before adding blacks of eyes or they will run together.
11. Add blacks of eyes in same fashion as the whites.
12. Use toothpick dipped in black paint to draw within the smile lines.
13. Get a grown-up to spray the entire surface with acrylic sealer spray.
14. Glue a magnet to the back and let dry.
    

Tips:

• Personalize your smileys by adding hair, glasses or freckles.
• Make a family of smileys or just add more kids.
• Salt dough is basically one part salt, one part water and two parts flour. We recommended a small batch above. You can make as much or as little as you like. Keep in mind that you cannot save it, it will dry out, so only make what you need or intend to use.

I play a 12-string guitar, and have since I was 12. I'm a songwriter
first and foremost, and I have never written anything I didn't mean. I
am obsessed with lyrics. I love Tennessee. And talking to people. I was
born on December 13th, 1989. Thirteen is my lucky number. I can tell
you some REALLY weird coincidences that involve that number.. Long
story short, 13 is good. I am the most competetive person I know. I
never really got into sports, so I guess you could say music is my
game. I love people who are nice to me, I've never been one to say

Summer Holiday With Me

I'll spend my 1st week of summer by staying at home with my beloved family.
Maybe I'LL watch some movies too.

I always try to spend my summer holiday to do something that I love, such as having a course. Actually I would like to get vocal course in my summer holiday. My summer holiday is about 2-3 month, so if I have nothing to do I'm gonna be bored.

I love travelling so much, so if my friends invite me to join their vacation, I make it sure that I'LL join it. I love Indonesia tourism. I was born n living in Indonesia. Indonesia has so many beautiful places to visit, places that I've been visited and being my favourite places such as lawang sewu (an old building in Semarang_Central Java), Keraton Jogja (a palace which is placed in Jogja_Central Java), marioboro street (a shopping center in Jogja_Central Java), Tanjung benoa (Bali island) etc.

Tanjung Benoa, or the Benoa peninsula just north of Nusa Dua, is a scenic 5 kilometres of coconut palms and fine sand. The area is the almost exclusive home of luxury hotels, private villas, fine restaurants, open air cafes and water sports facilities.

The resort has become busier over recent years with with more hotels like The Conrad Bali Resort and Spa joining impressive resorts like the Aston Bali.

What to Do in Tanjung Benoa

Right at the tip of the peninsula is the quiet port of Tanjung Benoa, with its village like alleyways and rows of traditional fishing boats and yachts. Offshore "Turtle Island" is the site of a sacred sea temple.

Tanjung Benoa has something for everyone - especially if you're a watersports fan. Snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, water-ski-ing, power boats, banana boats and reef fishing (The reef is just 200 metres from the shoreline at the north-eastern tip).

KARATON SURAKARTA HADININGRAT

Since February 17, 1745, Susuhunan Pakubuwono II and his family had occupied the new palace or karaton located along the banks of Solo River, the longest river in Java. The former karaton in Kartosuro (10 km west of Solo) had been abandoned due to severe damages. It was not a proper karaton for the Susuhunan (king) anymore, after being ransacked on 1742 by the invaders. Pakubuwono II with all his family and subordinates made a day long royal procession from Kartosuro to Surakarta. The city of Surakarta could easily connected to east Java main coastal centers such as Gresik, Tuban via Bengawan (river) Solo. This 'river connection' was one the reasons to move the palace to Solo. Pakubuwono means 'center of the world' (paku : nail, buwono : the world).

The king sat on his royal wagon, Kyai Grudo escorted by high ranking officials, troops, regalia carriers, bringing the pusakas (heirlooms) and other important things to be used in his new palace. The convoy includes also the sacred gamelan, waringin (Banyan) trees, horses, elephants and a special chamber Bangsal Pengrawit. Upon arrival at the new karaton, he announced that starting from today the capital city of the kingdom was Surokarto Hadiningrat (suro : brave, valiant - karto : prosperous - Hadi : great, precious - rat : state).

Coming from the north side of Jalan Slamet Riyadi through a thoroughfare (gladak), a visitor arrives in the North Square (alun-alun Lor). In the center of Alun-alun, there are two waringins (Banyan) trees symbolizing protection and justice.

The throne hall Sasono Semowo or Pagelaran faces the square. In the old days, it was from this hall, the Susuhunan or king delivered his massage and received report from his government read by his Patih (chief minister). Further south, several steps up, there is the Siti Hinggil (high ground) where the GAREBEG ceremonies started (in separate article: garabeg in Solo and Jogya).

Passing through the main gate or kori of Brajanala (braja: ray - Nala: feeling) one enters the fort Baluwerti on Kemandungan square. Enter to Sri Manganti, where one has to wait for audience with the king. And there is the main location called KADATON. In the center is the main throne hall Sasono Sewoko, where the king received obedience from his court family and subordinates. It is also a place he practiced meditation (samadi). There is a small Pendopo (hall) called Pringgitan, where leather puppet (wayang kulit) performs from time to time. Next to Sasono Sewoko is Sasono Handorowino where royal banquets are given.

Leaving Kadaton to south, there is the Magangan court, where the court dignitaries entered the sanctum along this route. There is a pavilion of meditation for princes. There is a sacred meteorite on the rear bank of the pool. From here southward, passing the gate or kori of South Brojonolo, then Sitinggil Kidul, one arrives in the South Square (Alun-Alun Kidul) The Palace's elephants and buffaloes grazed here in the old days. Due to the existence of the elephants with its ivory trunks, this place is popularly known as GADING (Ivory).

Taking lessons from Kartosuro Palace, which were easy to be attacked by enemies, the new Surakarta Palace fortified itself.

So, the Alun-Alun was also meant to be a battleground to resist any attack. Several batteries of soldiers were installed in Pagelaran and in front of it (GELAR= formation of troops; Pagelaran = a place where battle tactics are decided). The routes encircling the Alun-Alun are called Supit Urang (Supit-pincers; Urang = crab), symbolizing a tactic to defeat the intruders.

The reserves (of soldiers) were held in the square of Kamandungan, Sri Manganti was a rest place.

In Baluarti, there were rice - barns, arsenal and ammunition depot, and stables for horses of the cavalry and the special garrison of the king's guard (Tamtomo). The palace is also a place of high spiritual meaning of old Javanese faith. As there are seven stairs and seven gates at Candi Borobudur, there are also seven squares at Solo Palace :

5. Kamandungan
6. Sri Manganti
7. Plataran

And Seven Gates (Gapuros) :

1. Gladag

There is Panggung Songgobuwono (panggung-tower ; songgo-to support ; Buwono the world) in Baluarti, a tower with octagonal form. Some believe that it is a place where Sri Sunan (a popular name for the king) continued the tradition of his ancestors to meet with the Goddess of South Seas (Kanjeng Ratu Kidul) at least at the anniversary of his coronation. West of Kedaton, there is a place called Mantenan, where there was bandengan, a fishpond with gurameh fishes and turtles (symbols of long age of life). In the old days, Sri Sunan delivered the teaching of life philosophy and cleaned his heirlooms. In the high ground he did meditations and there is a mosque - Pudyosono (a place to worship).

Karaton Surakarta as one of the stronghold of Javanese culture is opened daily to be adored by visitors. It has a museum and art galery where some precious collections are exhibited, such as keris (daggers), masks, leather puppets, etc.

At present, the King of Surakarta is Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XII.

Lawang Sewu-The Thousand Doors

It's an old bulding which has so many doors inside, that's why people call it "Lawang Sewu" in Javanese, which has meaning the thousand doors.
